What you will actually pay in Bangalore

The rate above is the metal alone. A real bill adds the jeweller's making charges, and then 3% GST on the metal and the making charges together — the GST Council sets that rate; see the CBIC GST rate schedules.

Gold 24K, with GST
₹1,71,789
per 10 g · metal + 3% GST · before making
Gold 22K, with GST
₹1,57,473
per 10 g · metal + 3% GST · before making

Making charges are set by each jeweller — commonly 6–15% of metal value on machine-made pieces and higher on handwork — so nobody can put them in a rate board. Put yours into the calculator and it will break a total into metal, making and tax.

Gold rate in Bangalore by weight

The same rate at the weights a purchase actually comes in. Every figure is the metal alone, ex-GST, derived from the per-gram rate in the card above — so these cannot drift away from the headline the way a hand-kept table would.

The Bangalore market

Bangalore is the largest gold market in Karnataka and, after Chennai, the biggest retail market in southern India. Demand here has two distinct sources that most Indian markets do not combine: the traditional wedding and festival calendar, and a large salaried population buying coins and bars as savings.

Chickpet, in the dense lanes of the old city, is the wholesale centre — jewellery, silk and textiles trading side by side, which is how the district grew. Commercial Street is the best-known retail run, and the showrooms in Jayanagar and Malleswaram serve their own neighbourhoods.

As across the south, 22K is the default for jewellery and the metal rate is quoted per gram at the counter more often than per 10 grams. Bangalore usually sits below Chennai and above the western markets, which is the pattern our adjustment is built to follow.

Gold-only movement, converted at today's INR rate

Ten daily closes per 10 grams, ex-GST. Read this as the movement in the metal: each past dollar close is converted at today's exchange rate, not at the rate that applied on the day, so the rupee column is not a record of what gold cost in Bangalore on those dates. Until we hold a daily USD/INR series, saying so is the honest version of this table.

How this rate is worked out

We start from the international spot price of gold in US dollars per troy ounce, convert it to rupees per gram at the European Central Bank's daily reference rate, add India's 15% import duty, and apply a flat trade premium. We apply a regional adjustment of +0.75% over Mumbai, reflecting inland transport from the western ports and the strength of Karnataka's retail demand.

Purities follow exact ratios: 22K is 22/24 of the 24K rate, 18K is 18/24. The methodology page gives every constant, the date it was last checked, and an explicit list of what this figure cannot tell you.

This is an estimate, not a quote

Our Bangalore figure applies a fixed regional adjustment to a nationally derived rate. We do not survey local jewellers or publish any bullion association's rate. Treat it as a well-documented reference level, and expect a counter price to differ. See the risk disclaimer.

24K, 22K and 18K — which one applies to you

KaratHallmarkPurityTypically used for
24K99999.9%Coins, bars, investment metal. Too soft for most jewellery.
22K91691.6%The standard for Indian gold jewellery.
18K75075.0%Diamond settings and contemporary designs; harder and more durable.

The hallmark number is the purity in parts per thousand, and each rate is an exact fraction of the 24K figure. 22K vs 24K gold and what 916 means covers the alloy, how to read a BIS hallmark and how to check one.

Duty, GST and hallmarking

Import duty of 15%. India imports almost all of its gold, and the customs duty on it is 15% (10% basic customs duty + 5% AIDC), administered by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. That duty is inside the rates on this page, because it is inside the price a shop pays for its metal.

GST of 3% is not. Indian rate boards quote ex-GST by convention and so do we. Gold and gold jewellery are taxed at 3% of the transaction value — see the CBIC GST rate schedules — and that value includes making charges, not just the metal. The jewellery price calculator applies both.

Hallmarking is mandatory. Gold jewellery sold in India must carry a BIS hallmark: the BIS mark, the purity grade (999, 916, 750) and a six-digit HUID. Check all three before paying, and see the BIS hallmarking FAQs for what each mark means and how to verify one.

Duty, tax and hallmarking rules on this page were last reviewed on 2026-08-24. Rates set by government can change at a budget or a council meeting; if you are reading this long after that date, check the official sources linked above.

Frequently asked questions

Is the gold rate in Bangalore the same as in Bengaluru?

Yes — they are the same city. Bengaluru is the official name, adopted in 2014, and Bangalore is the older one still in common use. There is no separate rate for either, and this page answers both searches.

Why is gold cheaper in Bangalore than in Chennai?

Tamil Nadu sustains a wider retail premium over landed cost than Karnataka does, so Chennai has historically quoted above Bangalore. Both sit above Mumbai, because metal lands on the west coast and has to be moved inland. The gap between the two is under half a percent on our model — smaller than the difference between two jewellers' making charges.

Should I buy 22K or 24K in Bangalore?

22K (916 hallmark) for jewellery — that is what almost all Indian ornaments are made from. 24K is for coins and bars, which a large share of Bangalore's buyers are actually after. The 22K rate is exactly 22/24 of the 24K rate before making charges.

Do Chickpet and Commercial Street quote different rates?

The metal rate is much the same across the city — it moves with international spot, not with the street. What differs is making charges: a wholesale lane like Chickpet typically quotes closer to the metal, while a retail showroom prices in overheads and design. Compare making charges, not headline rates.

Does this rate include GST?

No. Like Indian rate boards generally, our headline figure is ex-GST. You will pay an additional 3% GST on the metal value plus making charges when you buy.

Silver rate in Bangalore

The silver figure in the card above is the national rate per kilogram, ex-GST — we apply the same regional adjustment to silver as to gold, and no city-specific silver survey sits behind it. Silver price today carries the ounce, gram and kilogram quotes, the ten-day board and the gold/silver ratio.
