How this rate is worked out

We start from the international spot price of gold in US dollars per troy ounce, convert it to rupees per gram at the European Central Bank's daily reference rate, add India's 6% import duty, and apply a flat trade premium. We apply a regional adjustment of +0.12% over Mumbai, reflecting inland transport and the local trade margin.

Purities follow exact ratios: 22K is 22/24 of the 24K rate, 18K is 18/24. The methodology page gives every constant, the date it was last checked, and an explicit list of what this figure cannot tell you.

This is an estimate, not a quote

Our Delhi figure applies a fixed regional adjustment to a nationally derived rate. We do not survey local jewellers or publish any bullion association's rate. Treat it as a well-documented reference level, and expect a counter price to differ. See the risk disclaimer.

The Delhi market

Delhi is the largest gold market in north India and the distribution point for the surrounding NCR belt. Rates here track Mumbai closely, with a small margin reflecting the cost of moving metal inland from the western ports.

Kucha Mahajani in Chandni Chowk is the historic bullion lane and still the wholesale centre; Karol Bagh is the best-known retail jewellery market, with Dariba Kalan trading in silver and older stock. South Delhi and Gurugram malls carry the national chains at chain pricing.

Delhi's retail premium widens noticeably in the wedding season from roughly October to December, when local demand outruns supply. Our fixed adjustment does not model that seasonality, which is one reason to treat the figure as indicative.

22K91691.6%The standard for Indian gold jewellery.

Hallmarking by BIS is mandatory for gold jewellery sold in India. Check for the BIS mark, the purity grade and the six-digit HUID before you pay.

What you will actually pay in a shop

The rate above is the metal only. A real invoice in Delhi adds two things it cannot include:

Our on-site calculator applies both, so it lands much closer to a counter total than the headline rate does. Enter the weight and purity of a piece and it will break the total into metal, making and tax.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Delhi gold rate slightly higher than Mumbai?

Imported bullion arrives on the west coast and has to be moved, insured and financed inland. That cost, plus the local trade's margin, is what separates the two.

Is the Delhi rate the same across Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk and the malls?

No. Wholesale lanes such as Kucha Mahajani typically quote closer to the underlying rate, while retail chains price in brand, showroom overheads and higher making charges. The metal rate is similar; the final bill is not.

What are typical making charges in Delhi?

They vary widely — commonly around 8–15% for machine-made pieces and considerably more for handcrafted or intricate work. Making charges are set by each jeweller and are not part of any published gold rate, including ours.

Does the rate change during the day?

The underlying dollar spot price moves continuously while international markets are open, so our figure moves with it. The rupee exchange rate we apply is a daily central-bank reference, so it holds steady until the next publication.
